Walking through Town
By Harley Holland
Thoughts from walking through the villages and towns:
The day after we arrived in Uganda we walked to Bombo. I was fortunate to walk alongside Jordan Miller. She supplied helpful information regarding the things we saw on our walk. We noted the houses that looked more developed with manicured lawns are typically owned by the wealthy or government personnel. That people will add onto their homes in sections at a time, and sometimes they are left unfinished because they run out of money.
We would walk by stores and Jordan would note that the front would be stores and the back homes. And that there would be a series of stores that would have similar products for sale. If business is bad, not only will they lose their store but their home as well.
Something we have been taught on this trip is compassion is something you gain from living alongside the people you are with. As a girl, I was able to learn new considerations and have compassion for women. I pray God continues to open my eyes to what I saw from my walks.
