SLAM Nashville week: What did you learn? How were you challenged? What will you take away from this experience?

My Thoughts

This week I learned a lot about what I’d like to call domestic missions. What I’ve seen this week was the culmination of 25 years of a ministry partnering and networking to create biblical mission opportunities for middle and high school-aged kids. I learned about is how all these opportunities were formed. Some of them were simply ideas such as the kids’ camps that took place at apartment complexes and cleaning elderly high rises and others were ministry partnerships such as The Bridge. I found it really fascinating how this was all organized with the leadership structure in mind so that the students would have plenty of facilitators there who knew God’s word so that they could be held accountable to the bible when on mission. One thing that really challenged me was some of these students’ selfishness and spirit of competition that held them back from properly ministering to younger kids. Breaking them of this mindset was difficult but was done and ended in great fruit being put forth. From this experience I will take the motto “if you build it they will come” differently. I’ve seen how anyone who knows God’s word can effectively minister wherever they are with limited resources.
