Teaching in Schools
After being in Uganda for only a few days, we got the opportunity to visit a local primary school. We spent two days there, which included some members of our team teaching in the classrooms and others from our team preparing lunch for all 400+ students.
I got the privilege to teach and met some really precious girls. What I got to witness in the classroom and in the eyes of the children I met was that they have so much potential. In the short time, we were there, there was so much to see.
There were many children in the classrooms and not many teachers. The uniforms the children were wearing were falling apart. Kids were falling asleep in class because they don’t typically get a meal during the school day. But despite the reality they live in, they continue to come to school each day, believing in an education that will lead to a future. That is the promise they have been told although ultimately, the system is broken.
Often the potential these children have gets lost, overlooked and forgotten. After seeing the afflictions of the students, hearing their cries, and to some extent knowing their suffering (Exodus 3), I am thankful the LORD has given me eyes to see them with hope. I want to let the kids that fill these classrooms be engraved in my mind as motivation to continue to become developed so I can use my position to lift them up, honor them, see them, and give them a chance.
