During our trip we went to Saint John’s Primary school near our campus. this was such a special experience for many reasons. I met so many kids, I loved all of them. There were a few kids that I connected with. Most of them did not speak much English although they tried their best.

The experience showed me the importance of learning another language so you can connect and share stories. It also showed me how you can connect without knowing each other’s language. We connected through laughs, hair braiding, playing net ball, holding hands and just running around laughing together.

One of my favorite moments was after school. Some of the older kids were playing games, I had a little girl who I had connected with that day. During the games she never left my side and we just stayed near each other.

Sitting in the grass with her she wanted me to sing. I sang “You are my Sunshine” song my mom used to sing to me when I was about her age. She laid her head on my knee and her eyes looked at me with so much love. That moment I will never forget. I was able to love the way Jesus did. I was able to get a glimpse of how much God loves his kids because of the love I felt for that girl. I will never forget her.
