What skills or gifts do you have to offer on this Internship?
I work hard, take correction well, and have skills in IT and electrical work. I’m also service-oriented.
How can people be praying for you?
I could use prayer to submit myself to the education and lessons that the Lord is trying to teach me rather than trying to learn and grow in ways that I think I need to learn. I have a tendency to shut that off get caught up in my day to day.
What is your favorite Scripture, and why?
Therefore prepare your minds for action; discipline yourselves; set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed. Like obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires that you formerly had in ignorance. Instead, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; for it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy - 1 Pe 1:13–16.
I have a lot of favorite verses, but this is the one that I think characterizes my moment in the context of internship the best. The first phrase, "Therefore prepare your minds for action," is the position I need to be in right now. I have 3.5 months before internship starts. This is a time for me to prepare my mind. Prepare my mind so that when I'm there I am ready to serve, submit myself to the Lord and the direction that he needs me to go. In order to do that though, I need to be prayerful and conscious of the responsibility I have as someone who wants to serve the Lord and how that will look like in the context of internship. It is a time for me to learn and be humbled so that all of the things that would prevent me from serving the Lord and other people come out in the environment that is made for it. That way I can become aware of those things and change them so that I don't continue to do them moving forward. This period is the time that I need to spend being prayerful and sensitive to the Lord so that I am able to do that on internship.
In verses 15 and 16: "Instead, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; for it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy." This reminds me of the fact that I'm here wanting to serve the Lord not because I thought it would be a good idea one day, but because it was something that the Lord called me to. Because of that, I need to conform myself to God's law and expectation and not my own—something that is often a struggle for me. That way is, once again, exemplified by Jesus and that what that calling looks like is demonstrated in Isreal's testing in the wilderness. Going into it, I need to continue to allow my education to change me and tutor me in holiness. That holiness is something that needs to characterize me at all times, but it especially right now as I prepare for this trip so that while I'm there, I can already be ready to deny myself at all moments. Now, I don't have the expectation to be flawless, but preparing myself will hopefully allow me to submit myself to the program and let it change me in the way it needs me to change.
If you were a superhero what would your power be?
Lily McDaniels told me that mine would be Cyclops from Xmen. Not necessarily the power, but definitely the character and their development.
