Journal prompt: What is one lesson I’ve learned from my East African friends that I will never forget?
One lesson I learned from one of the Ugandan leaders named Dan. The lesson was: Being a living sacrifice for the Lord requires a denial of self that puts others’ needs ahead of your own. This lesson was a theme of the trip, but Dan’s testimony really struck with me. He spoke about a time that he was supposed to go serve in a village but ended up getting extremely sick, 104 feverish sick. But the people in the village needed him, and he was the only one with the skills that were needed to help. So he went.
The Lord met him and the village during the time he stayed there. He felt sick almost the entire time, but the Lord used him regardless. That kind of perseverance is something I will always take with me moving forward.
