Bible Studies
By Lydia Winter
Bible studies are one of the biggest things about Summer Internship. I wanted to take time to write about them because they really are one of the best and most impactful things that I take with me. They are the source of my development and growth. They are what opens my eyes to see what’s in front of me and what I need to do as a result of what I see.
The teaching informs my thoughts, actions, and words. Without a knowledge and understanding of God’s Word, I do not know how to help the poor, oppressed, sick, widow, or orphan. I need God’s Word to give me direction and guidance and that is what it has done for me through the times of teaching and studying that we’ve received on this trip.
Everything taught is directly from the Scriptures. Mr. Garner engages the lessons and instruction that God gives in his Word and helps us understand them so we can implement them. After Bible studies I feel filled up and joyful. They bring life and excitement. His Word is what satisfies my soul.
On internship, Mr. Garner goes through the first few chapters of Genesis. These have been some of my favorites so far. Learning about who God has created us to be, what he has created us for, and how we are supposed to live lives according to his purpose. God is so creative, intentional, and filled with so much grace.
I love learning about his design and how much love he has for all that he creates. I have taken so many practical lessons away from these bible studies: learning how to order chaotic environments, about our potential and dominion over living things because we were made in his image, learning about walking with God and imaging him through our work, etc.
These times are special and so fruitful. I praise God for the way he moves in me and works in my heart and mind as I let the Word fall upon me in these times of teaching. Engaging int eh education of God’s Word is a vital part of this trip and something I do not take for granted.
