Journal prompt: How are you different after Summer Internship 2024? How have you changed? What people or experiences contributed? Are you happy about it?
This summer I developed occupationally through learning about my skillset and how to be a leader who serves. There were several times on the trip in which I was put into an administrative role. I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed this role and how well it helped me to use my voice. I was required to give directions to my fellow interns, solve problems, and as a trainee who traveled to Africa last year, I was able to share my experiences and knowledge that I gained last year, with the team this year. As a team, Mr. Garner taught us what it means to be a servant from the lens of scripture, using passages like Mark 10 and Philippians 2. I’m learning from these scriptures how needed it is that a leader empties themselves of any selfish ambitions and sees others as before them, which forms the mind of Christ in someone. Many people contributed to my experiences this summer but most importantly was the example that my leaders modeled to me and the team. They ate last every meal, always considered others first, were there for every one of us students at any time of the day or night, they were so gentle and loving providing correction and encouragement consistently. One of my hopes for this trip was to develop occupationally, I wanted to become more aware of my skillset and see how it could be used in this ministry, specifically on the mission field. I'm so thankful that I was able to become more aware of those things and how the laborers of many different fields are needed to carry out the vision of bringing the Lord's kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
