Learning My Contributions to a Team

by Walt Reynolds

Opportunities to learn about one another and develop team dynamic are integral to the beginning days of summer internship and come in a variety of ways including sports.

My Thoughts

Prompt: Sunday’s activities introduced themes of teamwork - how to identify leadership, distribute roles, enact perseverance and flexibility, and employ encouragement in order to “win” no matter the circumstance. What did you learn about yourself from those exercises? Can you identify some roles that you are gifted in, when working on a team?

I learned that winning may often be very difficult or almost impossible, but that never negates the need for hopefulness and endurance. In those situations, it is important to acknowledge those with experience and competency and let them be an example to others. In this case, I was one of the least competent team members for volleyball, but I was still able to contribute with perseverance and encourage other team members in a way that could build them up. Teamwork is something that everyone will learn for their whole life, but those are some great lessons to begin considering.
