Journal prompt: What is one lesson I’ve learned from my East African friends that I will never forget?

I worked with an amazing man named Joash and he inspired me. We were the SLAM Late Nites group and I was the group lead. We were teaching them (EA leaders) how to run Late Nites. The joy, excitement, persistence, and work ethic Joash displayed was amazing. He would come to me with all the clarifying questions and would be planning so far ahead. Even when everyone was chilling, he was working on the planning. He just loved God and loved the youth and he told me that he was so amazed to get to serve.

This man taught me to work hard for the Lord out of love.

At the leadership conference I witnessed the Word of God changing lives and opening eyes. I looked and watched as our African brothers and sisters eagerly studied and asked questions, hungry for the truth of the Word.

I talked to one of the leaders at a lunch time and they said it was something they’ve never experienced before because the Word that was spoken actually gave them something to do. He acknowledged the practicality of the interpretation of the Word of God.
